TISSEEL (Fibrin Sealant (Human)) is a two-component fibrin sealant made from pooled human plasma. The final step of the blood clotting cascade is simulated when the two components, Protein Sealant (Human) and Thrombin (Human), are mixed together.

Protein Sealant (Human) is a sterile, nonpyrogenic, steam- and solvent-detergent-treated preparation derived from pooled human plasma. It is available as a lyophilized concentrate of Protein Sealant (Human) for reconstitution with synthetic aprotinin solution or as a pre-prepared frozen liquid. This liquid, which includes both Protein Sealant and aprotinin, is supplied in a two-chamber prefilled syringe, with the compartment containing Protein Sealant and Aprotinin solution labeled with the number "1".

Indications

Hemostasis: TISSEEL is a fibrin sealant designed to aid in achieving hemostasis in adults and children over 1 month of age. Used during surgical procedures when traditional methods of bleeding control, including suturing, ligation, and cauterization, are ineffective or impractical. In addition, TISSEEL has demonstrated efficacy in patients who have been heparinized.

Sealing: TISSEEL is a fibrin-based sealant used in addition to traditional surgical methods (such as suturing and ligation) to help prevent leakage of colonic anastomoses after reversal of temporary colostomies.
